Autumn Inspired Décor To Stay Home For
17th Sep 2020
The onset of Autumn provides us with the perfect opportunity to cosy up at home, adopt a slower pace of life and relax a little.
There’s nothing more inviting than the warmth of the log burner or the smell from the slow cooker as you step in from the cold. Autumn is also the perfect time to update our home decor and create the perfect sanctuary for the colder months ahead.
Sumptuous fabrics, rich colours and tactile textures are the order of the day!
Luxe sofas
Think tactile velvets and rich colours for your next sofa if you want a cosy room that cries out with style and sophistication. Deep blues, vibrant oranges and emerald greens are guaranteed to be the talking point of your living area – just team them with the right accents and textures for a decorating scheme that looks both modern and timeless.
Mood lighting
Fewer hours of daylight (and a lot less sunshine in general!) means that lighting really comes into its own in the autumn and winter months. In larger areas opt for a range of different lighting such as wall lights, floor lights and pendant lighting to create zones and a more intimate environment. Table lamps are perfect for cosying up a dark corner. Battery operated feature lighting and LED candles are also a safe and effective way of adding the Hygge factor to your home.
Sumptuous rugs and carpets
Rugs are an easy and cost effective way to instantly update a room. Whether you want to inject some seasonal colour or add a little more comfort to your hard flooring throughout the autumn and winter investing in a good quality, stylish rug is money well spent. Opt for plusher fabrics for autumn such as wool or velvet for added comfort and toasty toes.
Carpeted rooms really come into their own throughout the cooler seasons and the right choice can transform a room. Carpet also has the added benefit of being a natural insulator – a wool carpet in particular absorbs heat and will release it slowly – perfect for the autumn and winter. We particularly love the Barefoot Bikram range from Alternative Flooring; made from 100% wool, and with a thick pile this is perfect for all areas of the home.
Natural textures (baskets, wood, sisal etc)
The trick to creating a home that’s both stylish and welcoming is to introduce lots of natural textures. Wooden floors, wicker baskets, oak furniture and natural carpets are just some suggestions that can transform a house into a home.
Dark walls
Dare to go dark on the walls to add an instant feeling of warmth and cosiness to a room. Dark walls can transform a space from bland to bold and will also provide the perfect backdrop for wall art and other interior décor. Try Downpipe in Farrow & Ball for a classic dark grey tone that will never go out of fashion. Don’t shy away from using dark paint in small spaces either – small offices and bathrooms are particularly impactful when painted in darker hues.
Rustic wood flooring
Wood flooring is guaranteed to create a classic and welcoming home environment all year round. The added benefit of wood flooring is that it will complement almost any interior style and is the perfect backdrop for both modern and traditional homes.
If you really want to cosy up your home and create a more relaxed feel, opt for a rustic grade engineered wood floor which showcases the natural nuances and knots of the wood. There are also some exquisite handcrafted wood floors available from Parador flooring, which give a subtle reclaimed appearance – perfect for creating a cosy ‘lived in’ environment.
