How To Make Your New Carpet Last

How To Make Your New Carpet Last

18th Nov 2019

Caring for your carpet is easy and straightforward. Proper care and cleaning will keep it in good condition – saving you money in the long run! It will also prevent bacteria and allergens collecting in the fibres.

Follow our top tips for how to make your carpet stay beautiful and cosy for years to come.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum!

Vacuuming is the most important thing you can do to keep your carpet clean. However, be careful with silk, or long pile carpets to turn off the internal spinner as these can cause some carpets to ‘clump’.

Wool rich carpets, because of the nature of the wool fibre, will generally hide soiling better than synthetic products and will also be easier to clean. But no matter what type of carpet you have, we recommend vacuuming on a weekly basis. Routinely vacuuming will help to prevent dirt from getting into the carpet fibres whilst helping to keep the tufts upright too.

Protect at all costs

To keep your carpet clean, it’s worth placing doormats at the entrances of your home, as this will help trap dirt and moisture.

Additionally, consider buying furniture cups to prevent heavy items, such as tables, beds and sofas, causing indentations in your carpet and underlay. Where possible, it is always a good idea to rotate furniture periodically.

Stop that spillage!

It happens to the best of us. But if something is accidentally spilled onto your carpet, then deal with it immediately. The best way to clean up a spillage is through a dabbing action with a clean, white cloth or kitchen towel. Do not rub- this will cause the pile to burst, causing it to appear fluffy and lighter in appearance.Ensure not to overwet the carpet, instead working the stain from the outside in with a damp cloth to avoid it spreading.

Please note, if using a cleaning agent like a carpet cleaner, apply it to the cloth and not directly to the carpet.
